This is an AWESOME piece of character performance. It's not super uncommon for large scale, big budget 3D productions to hire a few 2D animators to do pencil tests of characters for pre-production. This shot in particular, is a very nice exploration of both body mechanics and personality of the character Ferdinand. During the stream, something we talked about quite a bit was how appealing this animation is, and how Jackson does a great job of flowing from one action to another. Animation really is a crafted performance, and good animation involves a lot of planning and purposfully made decisions on the performance. There's some great demonstrations of Ferdinand's character in large and small ways. Overall, the shot tells us that he is energetic, happy, and a little bit goofy. But there's also some very nice small personality accents like certain tail movements, certain poses, and certain timing choices, that, while they only last for a couple of frames and aren't seen for long, give the overall motion personality.
