Alex shares his workflow on how to approach the beginning of a shot, finding a good dialogue, and creating an idea.

Here are some notes on what to look for in a Dialogue:

  • Clear spoken english (or any other language)
  • No side noises (claps, laugh etc.)
  • Beginning Middle End of the point the character will be making
  • We don't need to constrain ourselves to the dialogue length
  • Character Breathing, Pausing and Thinking
  • Not too long, try to make it between 8s to 16s
  • Strong Personality
  • Emotion Change

Creating the Idea:

  • Uta Hagen 9 Questions
  • What's the context of the shot
  • What's the subtext of the shot
  • Build a Layout and a Pose that shows this character personality
