The Audition - Communal short film

Here’s ‘The Audition’, AnimChallenge's first communal short animated film created in collaboration with agora.studio. For the February 2020 challenge, we decided to do a little experimentation. We knew if everyone followed the same guidelines, used the same character and layout, we could efficiently render the best animation afterwards and create a 2 minute short film with it. The contest itself was a success, with close to 100 participants and thousands of animators downloading the free character rig we provided. We chose the 12 best performances, retrieved the Maya files, cleaned up the animation, imported those in a render scene created ahead of time, rendered them properly, edited the shots together and applied a good audio mix with music, sfx and voice over. The result is AnimChallenge’s first communal short film. We’re quite pleased with the result of this experiment and are already brainstorming ideas for another similar project.
